These are some images taken from Rome and the Le Marche region. Le Marche sits in the Eastern region and sits between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. It and is sparsley populated, largely unspoilt and not an obvious tourist region. However it boasts the visually stunning hilltop town of Assisi (the birth place of St. Francis (1181–1226), one of Italy’s patron saints and the impressive Grotte di Frasassi Caves. Fact alert: The Grotte di Frasassi extends for 35km is the largest underground cave system in Europe. This subterranean world of calcareous rock formations dates back 180 million years!
